Fort Hays State Men's Basketball begins a three-game homestand on Sunday (Nov. 23) when they play Bethel College at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The Tigers are 2-1 overall, coming off a win earlier in the week on the road at South Dakota Mines. Bethel is off to a good start this season at 6-1 overall.
On Wednesday night, Dan Mukuna produced his top performance as a Tiger so far with 34 points and 15 rebounds in the 68-52 win at South Dakota Mines. He scored FHSU's first 12 points on his way to a career night. Lucas Hammeke added a double-double as well, with 12 points and 10 assists.
Bethel College has a four-game winning streak going into Saturday. They have a contest with Bethany College on Saturday night before coming out to Hays for Sunday's contest. The Threshers are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.
Fort Hays State holds an 18-2 advantage in the all-time series with Bethel, with all 18 wins in a row entering Sunday's game. Bethel won twice in the first-ever season the teams met, 100 years ago in 1925-26, but Fort Hays State has won all 18 meetings since. FHSU won last year's meeting between the schools 84-58 in Hays.
Mukuna leads the Tigers at 19.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He is one of four Tigers averaging double figures in scoring, which also includes Jahvari Martino, Lucas Hammeke, and Kyle Grill. Hammeke leads the Tigers in assists at 5.7 per game.
Carmelo Yakubu is the top producer for the Threshers so far this year at 17.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He is one of five Threshers averaging double figures in scoring.
