BRANSON, Mo. - The Quicksilver 12u Fastpitch softball team recently wrapped up their season by winning the USSSA Class C National Championships held in Branson, Mo. July 6-10. The girls survived 40 other teams representing 12 different states in route to a perfect 10-0 weekend.
Three girls who go to school in Hays are on the Great Bend based team. Jenna Schmeidler, Rylee Stanley and Adalie Kippes are joined by Jimena Montes, Mikala Minton, Chayla Pendergrast, Adelle Smith, Baylie Kelly, Jaya Stroup and Brooklynn Kelly.
Pendergrast was named the Tournament MVP. She led the Quicksilver on the mound going 7-0, giving up 19 hits, 14 walks and 55 strikeouts during her 24 innings pitched.
Adelle Smith went 3-0, giving up five hits, six walks and 15 strikeouts in her 15 innings on the mound.
Catcher Riley Stanley, from Hays was named the Defensive MVP with her effort behind the plate during all 10 ballgames while Mikala Minton and Jenna Schmeidler, also from Hays, led the team with a .350 batting average during the tournament.
The ladies finished the season 44-9 and ranked #1 in Kansas and #1 nationally in the USSSA rankings.
