Fort Hays State will play its final game of the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday at Nebraska-Kearney. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Health and Sports Center. The Tigers enter at 19-8 overall and sit in a three-way tie for second in the MIAA standings at 12-6. The Lopers are 11-15 overall and 9-9 in the MIAA.
The Tigers extended their win streak over the Lopers to eight-straight games on Wednesday night in Hays with a 79-57 win. It was also the eighth-straight win for FHSU in Hays over UNK. Kaleb Hammeke led the Tigers with 27 points, while Kyle Grill had a perfect shooting night and added 14 points. Allen Taylor led the Lopers with 19 points.
With his 27-point performance on Wednesday, Hammeke is now just three points shy of 2,000 for his career. He really made a burst for the 2,000 milestone in the last four games for FHSU, averaging 25.8 points per game in that stretch. For the season, Hammeke is averaging 16.2 points per game and has reached double figures in all but one game. Hammeke is already the all-time scoring leader in program history.
Fort Hays State will be looking to match its longest win streak of the season (5) on Saturday. The Tigers currently own a four-game win streak and it's the fourth time this year they have had a win streak of at least four games.
The Tigers have the best scoring defense in NCAA Division II, allowing just 58.9 points per game. They have held opponents inside of 60 points in seven of their last eight games.
Fort Hays State will be seeking its 13th 20-win season under head coach Mark Johnson. They are looking to reach the standard for the fourth-straight year. Mark Johnson reached 470 wins overall and 300 conference wins in his career on Wednesday night in the win over UNK.
