2 inches of overnight rain in Hays; 2 inches ahead for the year

After a week of heat with Friday's daytime high soaring to 99 degrees in Hays, an overnight thunderstorm brought rain and cooler temperatures.

According to the official report from the K-State Agricultural Research Center, Hays received 1.98 inches of rain, just short of two inches.

August has been a dry month until now, with just 0.84 inches recorded.

As of 9 a.m. Aug. 29, Hays has a total of 2.84 inches of rain. The average is 3.03 inches by the end of August.

That brings the year-to-date total to 19.73 inches of moisture, exceeding the 152 year cumulative average of 17.71 inches by two inches.

The weekend weather forecast calls for cooler temperatures and rain each day.
