⚾Offense leads Monarchs to regional semifinals

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs scored multiple runs in every inning and the pitching staff held Bennington without a hit as they cruised to a 17-0 run-rule victory over the Bulldogs Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2-1A Hays Regional.

TMP’s Carson Liles struck out the side in the top of the first inning, setting the tone for Friday afternoon’s quarterfinal matchup, as he would go on to strike out nine, matching his season high in three innings.

Meanwhile the Monarchs offense got started early, taking advantage of four walks and three hits in the first innign to take a 4-0 lead.

The scoring started with an RBI single from Liles, scoring the game's first run. Ty Schmeidler, two hitters later, added a second RBI single for a 2-0 TMP lead.

After back-to-back walks, TMP scored on a bases loaded walk by Adler Brown and then they added a fourth run on a wild pitch.

Liles allowed his only base runner, a lead-off walk, to open the second, but he quickly bounced back to retire the side in oder.

With one out in the bottom of the second, TMP got back-to-back singles before Liles stole home putting TMP up 5-0.

With the bases loaded Kendall Walker was hit by a pitch making it 6-0 TMP.

Schmeidler followed with a run on a wild pitch and then Brown doubled to center scoring two more for a 9-0 lead.

Liles then recorded a rare four-strikeout inning in the top of the third thanks to a dropped third strike.

Schmeilder added his second RBI single in the bottom of the third putting TMP up 10-0. It was the first of three straight RBI singles. Caden Dinkel and Walker each drove in a run as TMP built a 12-0 lead.

Scheidler worked a perfect fourth setting up a five run fourth inning securing the Monarchs run-rule victory.

The TMP scoring started on an error by the Bennington left fielder putting TMP up 14-0.

Then two batters later Logan Baalmann connected on his third homerun of the season, a three-run shot to left, giving TMP the walk-off 17-0 win in four innings.

Liles earned the win with nine strikeouts in three no-hit innings.

Baalmann and Brown each drove in three runs and Baalmann and Liles scored three times. Liles was two-for-three. Schmeidler finished two-for-two with two RBI’s.

TMP improved to 18-9 with the win and will host the regional semifinals on Thursday.

Sacred Heart will take on Ell-Saline in the 2 p.m. semifinal game. At 4 p.m. TMP will take on Ellinwood. The winners are schedule to face off at 6 p.m. at TMP in Hays.
