Trayton Roa started getting into the gym to lift weight around his eighth grade and freshman year. In Roa's words, he "fell in love with it." Tuesday the Hays High senior signed to compete in power lifting for Midland University in Fremont, Neb.

Recently, Roa switched the federation he competed under which allowed more exposure to colleges. Midland University saw the numbers and recruited their most recent signee.

Competing at the 165 pound weight division, Roa currently has personal bests of 545 pounds on deadlift, squat 495, and 260 on bench.

Last season, Midland University had 14 national champions and 10 national runners-up in the various weight divisions. The Warriors won both the women's and men's raw and equipped discipline team titles.
