The Ellis County Health Department on Wednesday reported the average number of new coronavirus cases per day in the last seven days fell from 31 on Monday to 22 on Wednesday.

There were 71 new cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County since Monday. There are currently 432 active cases in the county, including 19 active hospitalizations of 19 Ellis County residents — up 10 since Monday. There have been 2,318 recovered cases.
As of Wednesday, there were 33 COVID-19 inpatients at HaysMed, up from 28 on Tuesday, with 29 of those active patients and four in the recovery phase.
The seven-day average of percent of positive tests fell slightly to 27.9 percent.
Since reporting began, there have been 2,778 cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County, including 28 coronavirus-related deaths.
Of the total 14,456 tests administered, 18.1 percent have returned positive for COVID-19.
