⚾ HHS closes out home slate with win over Liberal

HAYS – The Hays High baseball team closed out their home slate with a 10-3 win over Liberal Thursday afternoon at Leo-Harper Field. The Indians (9-12, 8-4 WAC) scored in every inning but one as the complete the three-game series sweep of the Redskins.

The Indians got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jace Dreher tripled to center field and Kaleb Roe grounded out, each scoring a run. Hays added three runs in the second on a Nash Kaiser triple to center field, a fielder’s choice and Beau Dreiling fly out. Kal Lonsdale extended the lead to 6-0 when he drove in a run on a groundout third inning.

After Liberal scored a run in the top of the fourth, the Indians answered with three in the bottom of the inning on an error and two-run double from JesseTaggert.

Brett Rhoades allowed three earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk over 4 2/3 innings and earned the win. Lonsdale pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to close out the game with one hit and three strikeouts.

Dreher went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Taggert also drove in two. The Indians drew 12 walks with Paxton Shaw, Roe, Taggart, Rhoades, and Lonsdale each walking twice.

The Indians close out the regular season with a doubleheader at Junction City Friday.
