Jolene Kay (Roe) Fortin

Jolene Kay Roe was born on May 29, 1950, to Don and Ardis Roe. She passed away on November 7th, 2020, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Jolene grew up in Oberlin and attended Oberlin Elementary School and Decatur Community Junior/Senior High School. She graduated in 1968, and then went to work for the phone company in McCook, Nebraska.

She married Jerry Fortin on December 28th, 1969. They made their home in Oberlin. To this union, four children were born, Kevin, Daren, Kristi, and Corey. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Good Samaritan Center after getting married. As the kids grew up, she worked as the office manager at the Oberlin Livestock Auction.

Jolene loved the Lord and was a member of the Oberlin Covenant Church where she was a deacon, taught Sunday school and held many other church duties. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, and she loved to cook. Family was everything to her, and on most Sundays, everyone would gather at Grandma Ardis’ house for dinner, games and cards. She followed her kids in every school activity and especially enjoyed attending sporting events and music programs. She was a leader of the Stick-To-It 4-H club numerous times during the family’s 20-year involvement with the club. She loved birthdays and holidays, and each event was celebrated in a special way. Her nine granddaughters were the light of her life, and she followed them in many activities as well.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Roe.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, Oberlin, KS; mother, Ardis Roe, Oberlin, KS; brother, Larry Roe (Peggy), Oberlin, KS; sisters, Carol Manning (Jerry), Derby, KS and Donna Spresser (Robert), Lansing, KS; sons, Kevin Fortin (Lori), Wamego, KS and Daren Fortin (Erica), Oberlin, KS; daughter, Kristi Dirks (Brandon), Ludell, KS; son, Corey Fortin (Jason Russell), Incheon, South Korea; nine granddaughters: Jessie, Erin, Jacie, Jenna, Jori, Kaci, Kylie, Kodi, Kora, and many nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held with burial at Oberlin Cemetery. A public visitation will be from 1-7:00 pm Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin. The family will greet friends from 5-7:00 pm.
