#4 Hays boys win; girls lose to #1 Central

Hays traveled to Salina Central to close out January basketball on Friday night.

Girls
Hays 43 - #1 Salina Central 68

The Central Mustangs led wire-to-wire as they picked up win number twelve in twelve tries. Hays never led, trailing 3-2 in the first quarter. The Indians used a 7-0 to get within two at 16-14 early in the second, but the Mustangs closed the half on a 20-6 run to lead 36-20.

Highlights

Central hit 14 threes on 25 attempts in the 25 point victory. Aubrie Kierscht led the charge with eight of those treys and a game high 32 points.

Jillyan Sheldon led Hays with a career high 16 points as the Indians fall to 7-6. Each of their losses is to teams currently state ranked. Salina Central is 12-0.

Boys
#4 Hays 58 - Salina Central 32

Hays scored the first eight points and never led by less than five in their 26 point win over Salina Central. The Indians led 18-7 after one quarter and pushed their advantage to 36-19 at halftime.

Highlights

The Indians outscored Central in all four quarters winning 58-32.

Jace Linenberger and Carson Kieffer each scored 18 in the victory as the Indians improve to 12-1 .

Hays will open the month of February with a home game against Scott City on Tuesday.
