Fort Hays State Men's Basketball opens MIAA play this week with a pair of home games, starting with Northeastern State on Thursday night (Dec. 1). The Tigers enter the week at 5-1 overall on the season. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., which follows the women's contest at 5:30 p.m.

Fort Hays State owns the top scoring defense and field goal percentage defense in NCAA Division II. The Tigers are allowing just 50.8 points per game this season. They held the opposition to less than 60 points in five of six contests so far this season and their season high surrendered was 66 against MSU Denver. The Tigers are holding opponents to 32.8 percent shooting overall and have held opponents under 40 percent in five of six contests as well.

On the flip side, offensively the Tigers are averaging 72.0 points per game. They have reached 90 twice this season, but scored less than 70 in four contests. The Tigers are averaging 60.7 points per game in three contests against NCAA Division II opponents this season.

The Tigers are outrebounding their opponents by an average of 9.8 per game. FHSU has outrebounded opponents in five of six games this season and matched their opponent in the other contest.

Kaleb Hammeke leads the Tigers in scoring at 15.3 points per game and assists at 4.5 per game. The Tigers have been pretty balanced in scoring with eight other players averaging at least five points per game. Iyen Enaruna is the top rebounder for the Tigers at 5.7 per game, trailed closely by Gabe Pieschl at 5.5 per game.

Northeastern State enters Thursday at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA. The RiverHawks won their MIAA opener at home over Washburn on Monday night by a score of 81-78 in overtime. NSU has played just two NCAA Division II opponents so far this season, holding a record of 1-1 in those contests. NSU averaged 74 points per game in those contests, even though it averages 89.8 points per game overall. NSU has three players averaging double figures in scoring, including Christian Cook (17.6), Rashad Perkins (17.0), and Dillon Bailey (14.0).
