Fort Hays State Men's Basketball opens MIAA play on Thursday night at Northeastern State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla. Both teams enter the contest at 4-1 overall on the season.
FHSU owns a six-game win streak against NSU entering this contest and leads the all-time series between the teams 16-7. The Tigers claimed the only meeting between the teams last year by a score of 96-87 in overtime in Hays. It was the highest-scoring game for the Tigers last year, and also their most points allowed as both teams shot at least 50 percent from the field in that contest. FHSU has won the last two meetings between the teams in Tahlequah, holding the RiverHawks inside 60 points in each of those contests.
FHSU enters Thursday on a two-game win streak after topping Central Christian and Manhattan Christian at home last week. Northeastern State enters the contest on a three-game win streak, but scraped by with a 72-70 win in its most recent contest against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.).
FHSU continues to hang its hat on defense, allowing just 56.6 points per game and a .358 field goal percentage to opponents. FHSU ranks fifth in NCAA Division II for scoring defense and third in field goal percentage defense.
Kaleb Hammeke (14.8 ppg) and R.J. Crawford (11.4 ppg) lead the Tigers in scoring. Shaun Riley and Traejon Davis lead in rebounds at 5.6 per game. Hammeke dishes out a team-best 4.0 assists per game.
