Rainfall varies in Hays area with up to 2 inches reported

Rainfall amounts varied greatly around Hays as a storm moved through the area Tuesday night.

The K-State Ag Research Center reported .13 inches of rain overnight. However, a report from north of Hays was 1.98 inches of rain. A report one mile east of Yocemento was .60 inches of rain.

The ag research center has received 2.41 inches for the month of June. The average precipitation by the end of June for Hays is 3.46 inches.

Ellis County remains in exceptional drought, according to the Kansas Drought Monitor, which was released on Thursday.

The ag research center has reported 8.62 inches of precipitation for the year. The area receives an average of 11.27 inches by the end of June.

Hays has a 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Rain chances persist into Thursday, increasing to 50 percent Thursday night and Friday and some rain chances remain into early Saturday morning. 

Skies are forecast to clear Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 90s.
