
Robert Lee St. Peter, 70, Hays, died Thursday, April 28, 2022, at his home.
He was born September 6, 1951, in Wichita, the son of Casimir J. and Della M. (LaBarge) St. Peter. In 1969, he graduated from Hays High School. He owned and operated many restaurants throughout Hays and generously donated to the community, schools, and Special Olympics. On August 9, 1980, he was united in marriage to Ellia I. “Dee” Grimes in Higbee, Missouri, and they were married nearly 42 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and his hobbies included rebuilding computers, tinkering on cars, attending car shows, and collecting coins, mugs, and Harley items. He enjoyed his Corvette, Harley, and Jaguar. Robert loved the outdoors, especially family time at the lake, fishing, jet skiing, river rafting, and cabin life. He enjoyed traveling with Dee and cherished every moment with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Dee of Hays, three daughters: Dominique Unrein and husband Lee of Makaha Valley, HI, Angelique Simms and husband Jerry of Hays, and Cherie Gottschalk and husband Travis of Hays, two brothers: Larry St. Peter and wife Marilyn of Lawrence and Steven St. Peter, eight grandchildren: Cassandra, Brandon, and Tyler Unrein, Taylor Wright and husband Christian, Sidney Simms, Laylah, Easton, and Aviana Gottschalk, his first great grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three infant brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
