LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - The Fort Hays State women's golf team placed seventh out of 12 teams in the SMSU Classic this week (March 16-17) at the Blue Course at Wigwam Resort, a par-70, 5,631-yard layout.
The Tigers opened the event with a team score of 329 in the first round before firing a season-low 317 in the second round to finish the week at 86-over 646.
Avery Blasi finished in a tie for eighth place in the 70-player field with a two-round total of 10-over 150. The sophomore fired a 6-over 76 in the opening round before posting a 4-over 74 in round two, tied for the lowest score by a Tiger this season. Blasi was one of two players in the field without a double bogey all week while ranking seventh with 22 pars.
Alexis Elliott finished in a tie for 30th at 22-over 162 after posting rounds of 84 and 78. Emma Walz turned in rounds of 86 and 79 to finish at 25-over 165 to finish in a tie for 40th place. The sophomore birdied five holes across the 36 holes, tied for second-most in the field
Hayden York finished in a tie for 46th after rounds of 83 and 87, while Brynn Ray placed 58th following rounds of 91 and 86. Competing as an individual, Kiley Maier placed 52nd with consecutive rounds of 86, while Jaycee Oakley finished in a tie for 61st following rounds of 90 and 88.
Illinois Wesleyan and Nebraska-Kearney tied for first place in the team race at 43-over, while Illinois Wesleyan's Gigi Zera secured the individual title at 5-over.
The Tigers will be back in action next week (March 23-24) at the Firekeeper Open in Mayetta, Kan.
