Peggy Lee (Scott) Mans passed peacefully through heaven’s gates on
February 15, 2022, in Satanta, Kansas. She was born December 21, 1928,
in Ness County, Kansas, to Eva Maddy Scott and Ralph E. Scott. She was
married in 1949 and preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Mans, in
1968. She was also preceded by her parents and siblings, Bill Scott,
Bonna Todd, Evelyn Richardson, Jerry Scott, and Larry Scott.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters and their spouses: Scott
Mans of Parkdale, Oregon. Linda Mans Leary and Pat Leary of Erie,
Pennsylvania. Debra and Brad Fort of Ulysses, Kansas. Michael and Nora
Mans of Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Peggy leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren:
Travis & Lindsay Fort and son Crawford; Jeanette Leary Pascale &
Blaise Pascale and children Lillian & Everett; Joseph Leary; Jordan
& Adam Castro, and sons Noah & Ellis; Carolyn Leary Gallegos
& Tomas Gallegos; Patrick Leary; Joseph & Kaley Mans; Michael
Mans, and Dominic Mans.
After graduating from Utica High School and Brown Mackie Business
College, Peggy married in St. Louis, Missouri. The couple lived in
Salina before moving to Hays, Kansas. Peggy lived in Hays for forty
years and retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1992. She moved to Erie,
Pennsylvania, in 2010 and to Ulysses, Kansas, in 2017. Peggy has been
“the rock” for her children. Following Joe’s death, she became a student
at Fort Hays Kansas State College, stopping just short of a degree to
become the executive secretary at their business department. She
subsequently worked for the Hays offices of the IRS and Social Security.
In retirement, Peggy worked a season at the information desk of Old
Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. She became one of the early
Creative Memories Consultants, teaching countless others to preserve
their photo memories. The albums created for her family bring tremendous
pleasure. In Bella Vista she was active in St. Bernard Catholic
Church, the Women’s Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Photography Club.
Her lifelong interests were her family, photography, fitness and travel.
She was there whenever needed to help and enjoy her children and
grandchildren.
Peggy’s smile could light up your day! A planner and organizer at
heart, Peggy reached out to draw in so many friends over the years. She
very rarely complained and her motto was “If you are feeling low, find
someone to help. It will not only brighten their day, but yours as
well.” She shared this Prayer of St. Francis when she saw anyone
struggling:
“Do not look forward to what might happen tomorrow; The same
everlasting Father who cares for you today, will take care of you
tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He
will give you unfailing strength to bear it.”
Peggy was a role model of strength, grace, thoughtfulness and kindness.
The family thanks the staff at The Legacy at Parkview and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital,
Ulysses, Kansas and Satanta Long Term Care, Satanta, Kansas, for their
loving assistance. A private family memorial service will be held at a
