High Plains Mental Health names building after late Hays architect

High Plains Mental Health is pleased to announce its staff office building at 1412 E. 29th, has been named the Spec and Peg Woods Office Building. The late Spec Woods was a longtime Hays architect and co-founder of Woods & Starr Architects. He and his late wife, Peg, were staunch supporters of community mental health services in northwest Kansas. 

“Spec and Peg were great champions of helping High Plains build residential services in Hays and Colby,” Executive Director Walt Hill said. “The couple worked tirelessly to build and support mental health services in northwest Kansas.”

Naming the building in their honor is intended to pay tribute to the Woods family’s lasting contributions to regional mental health services and community supports for clients.

High Plains has partnerships with facilities in Hays and Colby to provide subsidized housing for those with a diagnosis of Serious Mental Illness. The Spec and Peg Woods Office Building is adjacent to Woodhaven Apartments LP, the housing complex in Hays. 

High Plains Mental Health Center is a licensed community mental health center dedicated to the aggressive pursuit of providing a comprehensive mental health program to the residents of northwest Kansas. Embodied in this pursuit are fundamental principles of establishing quality services as close to home as possible, at an affordable fee, and delivered in the least disruptive manner available.
