Rita Ann Legleiter

Rita Ann Legleiter, 97, Liebenthal, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Rita was born September 14, 1923, in Catharine, Kansas, the daughter of Peter and Suzanna (Ubert) Giebler.  She was a lifelong resident of Ellis County, Kansas, and Rush County, Kansas.  She lived in Rush County, Kansas, for 75 years.  She was a homemaker and farm wife; devoting her life to her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society, both of Liebenthal, Kansas.  She also served on the Rush County Election Board for many years. 

On November 27, 1946, she married William W. “Bill” Legleiter at Catharine, Kansas.  He preceded her in death March 6, 2011.

Survivors include:  six sons, Jim Legleiter (Cathy), Louisville, Kentucky, Floyd Legleiter (Joan), Dallas, Oregon, Norman Legleiter (Lou Ann), La Crosse, Kansas, Earl Legleiter (Leslie), Englewood, Colorado, Billy Legleiter (Donna), Liebenthal, Kansas, and David Legleiter, Manhattan, Kansas; two daughters, Mary Rose Pickle (Randy), Wichita, Kansas, and Joyce Kallenberger (Dan), Weatherby Lake, Missouri; 24 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one brother, Norman Giebler, Peculiar, Missouri; and one sister, Helen Hagerman, Plainville, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Joan Legleiter; one great grandson, Colby McEntire; five brothers, infants Fidelis Giebler and Theodore Giebler, Robert Giebler, Celly Giebler, and Paul Giebler; and five sisters, Mary Giebler, Leona Hoffman, Zita Kuhn, Bernita Giebler, and Lucida Geist.

Because of the current challenges the world is facing at the present time, this is a private, immediate family only, funeral and interment, with no visitation.  The family will host a Celebration of Life in the future, to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the St. Joseph’s Steeple Fund, Liebenthal, Kansas.
