ST. CHARLES, Mo. – On Monday former standout Fort Hays State women's golfer Morgan Brasser became the first woman to win a Gateway PGA sectional event. She won a stableford scoring event held by the organization at Bogey Hills Country Club.

The Gateway PGA (Central/Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois) is one of 41 sections of the PGA of America and comprises PGA Professionals—men and women who work in the golf industry as coaches, club professionals, and leaders at facilities across the region. The section runs a full tournament schedule throughout the year, where these professionals compete against one another in both individual and team formats.

The event Brasser won was one of the official Gateway PGA section tournaments, competing directly against PGA Professionals in the field. Being the first woman to win made her performance and victory a very significant milestone.

In the one-round event, Brasser notched six birdies, six pars, five bogeys, and one double bogey. In stroke play. In stroke play, that equates to a 1-over par 72 on the par-71 layout. However, the tournament used the Stableford scoring system, which gives positive points for par or better. Brasser accumulated 22 points for her round and then had to win a two-hole playoff over Tyler Willette. Brasser currently serves as a professional at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.
