SALINA - The Hays High boys soccer team defeated Emporia 8-1 Tuesday in the opening round of the Salina South Invitational.
Michael Contreras scored the first goal seven minutes on an assist from Ivan Maldonado. Maldonado scored the second goal one minute later.
Mason Shadley made it 3-0 with a goal off an assist form Maldonado in the 24th minute. Shadley scored again off another assist from Maldonado in the 34th minute.
Maldonodo put Hays up 5-0 on a penalty kick in the 36th minute. He added another goal three minutes later off an assist from Jack Schumacher.
Elijah Beougher scored 63rd minute followed by a goal from Ethan Branaman in the 67th minute.
The Indians will play host Salina South in the semifinals Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
