Norman Edgett, Plainville

April 10, 1939 - January 9, 2022

Norman Wayne Edgett passed away January 9, 2022 at the Rooks County Hospital at the age of 82. He was born April 10, 1939, on the family farm north of Edmond in Norton County Kansas. He was the son of Grover Cleveland Edgett and Rosa Elizabeth (Glennemeier) Edgett.

The family moved into Edmond, KS when he was young and he graduated from Edmond in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1961 to December 1963, and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.

He met Lorine Bernice Hempel while working in LaGrange, TX and they were married on June 30, 1962 in Fountain, CO. After moving around the country several years working power line construction, they settled in Plainville Kansas in 1971 and remained there until his death.

His first job was with John M. Jillie construction building transmission lines and worked for them until 1971, with the exception of the extent he was in the Army. He went to work for Western Power in Plainville which eventually became Centel’ when he retired in 2003. For many years, he took care of the lights at the Plainville rodeo grounds.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping and fishing at Webster Lake. He was a member of American Legion Post 187 in Plainville, KS.

He was survived by his wife at home, sons Kenneth Edgett of Great Bend, Brian Edgett of Plainville, Gary (Kim) Edgett of Topeka, Greg (Michelle) Edgett of Monroe, IA, “adopted son” Kim Rounsley, “adopted daughter” Michelle Spargo, grandkids Amber Edgett, Isaac Edgett, Morgan Edgett, Mitchell Edgett, Levi Edgett, Lylliana Edgett, and Garret Rounsley, great grandson Adreein Edgett,and sister Cecelia Metheny of McPherson, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Louis Edgett, Leonard Edgett, Floyd Edgett, Henry Edgett, sister Alberta Metheny, brothers-in-law Morris Metheny, Laird Metheny, and sister-in-laws Ila Mae Edgett, Phyllis Edgett, Eleanor Edgett, daughter-in-law Lisa Edgett, three nieces, and three nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
