Fort Hays State University welcomed hundreds of new students to campus Wednesday as freshmen moved into Victor E. Village ahead of the fall semester.

Around 400 freshmen moved into campus housing Aug. 12, with about 1,000 freshmen expected to begin their studies at FHSU this semester.

The move-in day brought students and families to Hays from across the country and around the world.

New students arrived from states including California, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska and Oklahoma. International students also made the trip to Hays, including students from China.

For many freshmen, Wednesday marked the beginning of a new chapter as students settled into their rooms, met roommates and began getting familiar with campus.

Families, volunteers and FHSU athletic teams helped carry boxes, bags and other belongings into Victor E. Village throughout the day as students prepared for the start of classes.

With move-in underway, campus will continue to fill with students throughout the week as the fall semester approaches.
