⚾ Hays wins game one of doubleheader at Washburn Rural

TOPEKA – Dylan Dreiling hit a grand slam and drove in four runs to help the Hays High baseball team to a 14-4 win over Washburn Rural in game one of their doubleheader Tuesday outside of Topeka.

The Junior Blues scored 11 runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to build a 15-5 lead in the second game before it was suspended due to darkness after two innings. The two teams will try to complete  the game at a later date.

The Indians are 3-0. They host Garden City in their home opener Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Hays High.

Game 1: Hays 14, Washburn Rural 4
Dylan Dreiling hit a grand slam over the right field wall to put the Indians up 4-0 in the second inning.

The Junior Blues (2-1) answered with three runs in the bottom of the third but the Indians plate fife in the fifth and five more in the seventh.

Dreiling goes 2-for-3 with a double and a home runs, drives in four and scores three runs. Garrett Wellbrock also finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Dalton Dale, Brayden Dreher and Gage Porter all drove in three runs.

Carson Spray (1-0) allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks for the win. Dreher pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Washburn Rural 15, Hays 5 (suspended after 2 innings)
The Junior Blues scored 11 runs with two outs in the bottom of the second and led the second game 15-5 when it was called due to darkness. It will be completed at a later date.

The Indians scored two in the first and three in the second and were leading 5-4. Washburn Rural loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second. HHS got a force out at the plate then a strikeout but WR got a single followed by four walks and a hit batter.

Dylan Dreiling had two hits and two RBIs in the second game.
