It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Lloyd Sproul, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Born on Christmas Day in 1942 to Lloyd and Glenna Sproul, he lived a life filled with love and dedication to his family. He passed away on May 18, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
Joe was united in marriage to Kandi Comstock on May 20th, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Norton, Kansas. He remained a devoted husband for over six decades. Joe’s love for Kandi never wavered. Together they built a life full of memories that will be cherished forever.
Joe was a man of few words, but big talents and passions. As a farmer, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family and took great pride in nurturing the land that belonged to many generations of the Sproul and Comstock families. He also had a prestigious dairy farm during his early years that ran until 1984 where he milked over a hundred head of cattle. While his children were in school, Joe also served on the Lenora school board. Joe was also the Kansas state softball commissioner for the American Softball Association from 1995-2016. He coached many softball teams throughout his career. While coaching, he instilled values of teamwork and sportsmanship into countless young athletes including both of his daughters and granddaughters. Amongst one of his greatest accomplishments, he was inducted into the American Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2012 based on his numerous accomplishments and contributions to the game of softball which included bringing the USA Women’s Olympic Softball team to Topeka, KS to play the Kansas All-Stars in June of 2008.
In his early years, for fun, Joe would take motorcycle rides with Kandi as well as fly airplanes after he obtained his pilot’s license.
Joe found the most enjoyment in watching Gunsmoke, Mash, and The Game Show Network with Kandi and Dolly the dog by his side. He especially looked forward to seeing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kandi, of the home; his children: Starla LeClair, Norton, KS, Greg Sproul, Edmond, KS, Stacie (Jerry) Harder, Salina, KS; his grandchildren: Danielle (Jared) VonFeldt, Hays, KS, Courtney (Noah) Killip, Godley, TX, Brian (Hannah) Sproul, Almena, KS, Jeremy (Alisha) Sproul, Norton, KS, Mike (Nicky) Harder, Salina, KS, Todd (Sarah) Harder, Lyons, KS; sixteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; brother, Bob (Shirley) Sproul, Norton, KS; sister, Sally (Robert) Clydesdale, Lenora, KS and sister-in-law Judy (Jerry) Pantel, Mesa, AZ.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Glenna Sproul; grandson, Joseph LeClair; infant great granddaughter Zoee Sproul, and mother and father-in-law James and Lovene Comstock.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a memorial service starting at 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
