⚾ Liberal uses big sixth inning to hand Hays Larks a loss

HAYS – Liberal broke open a tie game with a six-run sixth inning and defeated the Hays Larks 10-6 Tuesday night at Larks Park.

The Larks (20-3, 15-3 RMBL) took an early 2-0 lead. Dylan LaRue drove in the game's first run with an RBI double in the first inning, and Hutch Russell added a run-scoring double down the left-field line in the second.

Liberal (15-8-1, 12-6 RMBL) answered with three runs in the fourth inning to take its first lead. Cade Adams and Trenton Uyeda delivered RBI singles, and Drew Gartman added an RBI on a fielder's choice.

Hays regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Brand Wilson tied the game with an RBI single down the right-field line before Taber Stokes drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout.

Cole Manuel hit a two-out solo homer for Liberal in the fifth to even the score at 4-4.

The Bee Jays seized control in the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits to build a 10-4 advantage. Cooper Kardokus delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single.

Stokes hit a solo home run in the seventh, and Russell capped the scoring with his second RBI double of the night in the ninth. Liberal finished with an 11-8 advantage in hits.

Carson Liles (2-1) suffered the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits over two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Starter Trent Baker worked the first five innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six and walking one.

The Larks and Bee Jays wrap up the three-game series Wednesday at 7 o’clock at Larks Park.
