PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams posted several impressive times on day one of the Seventh Annual Gorilla Classic on Friday (Feb. 11), breaking one school record and nearly eclipsing another. The Tigers had two provisional performances on the day.
The men's distance medley relay team of Aaron Mangan, Hayden Albright, Ethan Lang and Grant Bradley broke the school record by nearly three seconds with a time of 9:49.81, good for an NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark. The Tigers finished seventh in the loaded race and currently sit around 11th on the national performance chart.
The women's DMR team of Halle Johnson, Kendra Clary, Hannah Wiebe and Gretchen Kuffel nearly matched the feat, posting the second-best time during the DII era with a mark of 12:07.83 which was good for fifth out of 25 teams.
The other provisional mark came from Lyric Holman, who placed eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.84.
Four men posted times in the 600y dash good enough for a spot in the top 10 on the DII era performance chart at FHSU, including Trever Medina with a time of 1:13.13 (fifth on list), Kaden Wren in 1:13.36 (sixth), Jack Pakkebier with a time of 1:13.46 (seventh) and Nolan Churchman after crossing the line in 1:14.08 (ninth).
Fort Hays State has now seen eight indoor records go down this season, including four from each gender.
The rest of the Tiger squad will join the action on Saturday (Feb. 12) at both the Gorilla Classic and the Ichabod Invite in Topeka, Kan.
