HAYS – The Hays Hammer 18U baseball team picked up their second straight doubleheader sweep in as many days Thursday with a 7-1 and 10-2 win over the Salina Hawks.
The Hammer (5-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double from Carson Spray. Spray finished two-for-four with three RBI’s.
Garrett Wellbrock drove in a run in a three-run fourth inning and Hays added two more in the bottom of sixth.
Wellbrock allowed just one unearned run on two hits over seven innings for the victory. He struck out five with no walks.
In game two Hays scored in five-of-six innings on their way to a 10-2 win.
Brayden Dreher, Zeke Haag and Carson Spray all drove in three runs each and Dalton Dale and Garrett Wellbrock each collected three hits. Wellbrock scored three times.
Dalton Dale allowed just two unearned runs in six innings with nine strikeouts for the win.
