HAYS - The Hays Larks hit five home runs and got a solid pitching performance from Jake Fitzgibbons in a 21-2 rout of the Colorado Sox in front of a large Larks Park crowd Saturday.
Grant Lung and Cortland Lawson both hit two homers and Sam Crowell added a grand slam as the Larks improve to 12-2 and 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League.
Lawson, who arrived in Hays Friday night following Tennessee's appearance at the College World Series, hit a solo homer in his first at- bat in the second inning. He would add a two-run shot to kick start a seven-run fourth. Sam Crowell hit a grand slam to close out the scoring in the fourth.
Grant Lung hit the first of his two home runs to leadoff the third. He would also double later in in the inning as the Larks sent 14 to the plate and scored nine to build a 11-1 lead.
Lung added a two-run blast to right in the fifth to finish 5-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs scored.
Lawson had three hits and drove in four in his Larks debut.
Starting pitcher Jake Fitzgibbons (1-0) tied a season-high with eight strikeouts and picked up the win. The Tennessee freshman allowed two runs on five hits over five innings.
Jose Velazquez and Trevor Munsch both pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
