Fort Hays State Men's Basketball plays host to Central Missouri for its final home game of the 2022-23 season on Saturday (Feb. 11). Five seniors on the men's team will be recognized between the women's and men's contests. FHSU enters at 16-8 overall, 11-7 in the MIAA, while UCM is 11-12 overall, 7-10 in the MIAA. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Tigers are coming off a thrilling buzzer-beater win over Lincoln University on Thursday night. Kaleb Hammeke hit a turnaround jumper to break a tie as time expired to lift the Tigers to a 59-57 win. Hammeke finished with a game-high 20 points and FHSU moved to 11-3 at home this season with the result.
The Tigers seek a season sweep of Central Missouri for a second straight year. FHSU swept the regular season series last year. FHSU won the first meeting with UCM this year 57-46 back on New Year's Eve. Hammeke had a team-high 16 in that contest, while Gabe Pieschl pulled down 12 rebounds. Mikel Henderson led the Mules with 18 points.
The Tigers have won four straight games against the Mules going back to the 2020-21 season. FHSU has also won four-straight games against UCM in Hays, which goes back to the 2015-16 season. Central Missouri's last win in Hays occurred during the 2014-15 season when it was ranked No. 6 in the nation.
The Tigers enter Saturday just a half-game back of third place in the MIAA standings. Emporia State and Lincoln both sit at 11-6 in the conference entering Saturday. The Mules currently sit in a tie for ninth in the MIAA standings with Missouri Western and Northeastern State.
Seniors that will be recognized before the game include Gabe Pieschl, Geoff Hamperian, Iyen Enaruna, Devin Walker, and Gilbert Peters.
