A Hays man was arrested after allegedly taking part in a group assault that left a man injured Sunday morning in downtown Hays.
Hays Police Lt. Brandon Wright said a 45-year-old Hays man was allegedly attacked around 1:10 a.m. May 3 in the 400 block of West Seventh Street. He said a patrolling officer was driving through the area when he found the victim unconscious in a yard.
The man was bleeding from the face and had marks across his face and neck. Wright said a family member later reported the victim suffered a broken nose.
Wright said people in the area began walking away from the area as the responding officer gathered information from witnesses about what happened. Meanwhile, another patrolling officer located 20-year-old Brayden Graie Wilson running in the 300 block of West Seventh Street.
Wilson was arrested and booked into the Ellis County Jail. Wright said alleged charges against Wilson include aggravated battery, underage possession of tobacco, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage consumption of alcohol.
Wright said another individual was detained and questioned before being released later that morning after providing an alibi. Wright said the individual is not considered a suspect and no charges are expected.
Wright said the investigation remains ongoing, with police still looking into the involvement of at least two additional suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Hays Police Department.
