The city of Hays is again offering water conservation programs and incentives for 2024, said Holly Dickman, water conservation specialist

1. Showerhead and Faucet Aerators
• Aerators are free.
• There are currently six types of showerheads. Three models are free with exchange of your old showerhead. The other three are $5 with exchange of your old showerhead.
• Available in the City Hall Finance Office, 1507 Main 

2. High Efficiency Toilet Rebate
• Get anywhere from $50 to $150 back for replacing your old inefficient toilet with a new high efficiency model. The fewer gallons per flush, the higher the rebate. 
• A list of models that qualify may be found on the Department of Water Resources website, www.watersmart.hays. Eligible models must have a 1.28 gallons per flush or less.

3. High Efficiency Clothes Washer Rebate Program
• Get $200 back for replacing your old inefficient washing machine with a new high efficiency model.
• A list of models that qualify may be found on the city's website. They must have an integrated water factor of 3.2 or less to qualify 

4. Turf Conversion Rebate
• Available for those wishing to convert cool season turf to warm season turf, or water-conserving landscape.
• $1 per square foot rebate available with a maximum rebate of $3,000 per property
• Pre- and post-inspections are required. 
• After pre-inspection, you have one year to complete the conversion.

5. Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate
• Offers up to $100 on purchase of a WaterSense-labeled smart irrigation controller for landscapes.
• Smart controller must be purchased new at retail price after Jan. 1, 2024.
• Rebates available only for replacement of existing landscape irrigation controllers.  

6. Rain Sensor Shutoff Rebate
• Offers up to $100 on purchase and installation of compatible rain sensor shutoff device that interrupts an automatic irrigation system after 1/4 inch of rain has been received.
• Rain sensor shutoff device must be purchased new at retail price after Jan. 1, 2024.
• Rebates available only for replacement of old existing rain sensors or as an addition to existing landscape irrigation systems. No rebates will be given for newly installed irrigation systems.
