Carly Lang has been a varsity athlete from the moment she started classes at Hays High School. The volleyball, basketball and soccer standout signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Garden City Community College on Wednesday morning.
Lang has loved volleyball since she started playing in third grade. The combination of fun, energy and intensity that the sport provides makes volleyball the easy choice.
When she started playing varsity as a freshman, Lang realized there was a future for her in the sport.

Third-year coach Shannon Funk said that Lang's coachability along with her athletic ability allowed her to be an all-around player in volleyball. In three-plus years on varsity (not all stats could be found), Lang finished just shy of 1,000 digs despite never being the team's libero. She also played outside and middle in the front row.
During the signing, Coach Funk shared a story from summer volleyball that helped vault Lang's status with the GCCC coaching staff. Funk was approached by a GCCC coach mentioning how they liked Lang and would like to meet her. Funk said she would set it up and mentioned the conversation to her soon-to-be senior. Lang herself headed right over and started talking, impressing her future college coach.
Lang is a two-time 1st Team Western Athletic Conference Volleyball selection. She was 2nd Team in basketball as a junior and first team as a senior. Following her senior year in basketball, Sports in Kansas listed her on the 5A 2nd Team and KBCA named her to its Honorable Mention list.
