Carol Joan Reynolds

Carol Joan Reynolds, 93, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Carol was born December 25, 1929, in Chase, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Sarah (Scott) Bayer.  She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, for 70 years, moving from Chase, Kansas.  She was a 1946 graduate of Chase High School, Chase, Kansas, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, Kansas.

On February 8, 1952, she married Bill Reynolds at the Community Presbyterian Church, Chase, Kansas.  He preceded her in death December 5, 1997.

Carol was a teacher for 41 years before her retirement on July 1, 1994.  She began her teaching career, and taught kindergarten at USD 403 Otis-Bison.  Along with her 41 years as a teacher, she tutored many students outside of her classroom, and was active in her local teachers association.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas; NEA (National Education Association); Kansas NEA; a former member of the State Library of Kansas Board, and she served a three year term on the Kansas Reading Circle Committee.

Carol volunteered at the Walnut Valley Senior Center, and the Rush Center Library, both of  Rush Center, Kansas.  She also volunteered for many church boards and women’s groups.

Survivors include:  her daughter, Debra and Lee Oelkers, Hays, Kansas; two granddaughters, Carolyn and Scott Payne, and Michelle and Dylan Quigley; five grandchildren, Katie, Anna, and Stella Payne, and Aubrey and Kobie Quigley; and two sisters, Esther Delimont, Lebanon, Kansas, and Elizabeth Bomba, San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Floyd Bayer; three sisters, Elnora Bayer, Louise Carlson, and Shirley Schendzielos; and an infant sister.

Memorial service will be Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Scott Tempero officiating.  A private family interment in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center, Kansas, has taken place.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the Rush County EMT’s, or the FHSU Education Department, Hays, Kansas.
