Lori Renee Muck Baetz passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 4,
2022, at the age of 60, after a long battle with health issues
following a blood clot through her lung in 2013.
She was born in Loup City, Nebraska, to Franklin and Elsie Watkins
Muck on January 8, 1962. The family later moved to Gaylord, Kansas, in
1963, where Lori attended Gaylord Elementary and Kensington High School.
After graduating high school in 1980, she went to Cloud County
Community College where she studied accounting.
As a youth, she belonged to the Gaylord Rough Riders Saddle Club and
enjoyed riding her palomino horse "Palie" at the Phillipsburg Rodeo
grand entry, various parades, and on trail rides with her dad and
siblings. She enjoyed many years of waitressing at the Gaylord Cafe for
Raymond and Rita Ifland. She also played on the Gaylord women’s softball
team for a few years.
On August 15, 1987, she married Marty Baetz and the pair began their
marital journey at their farm north of Smith Center, Kansas. Lori loved
being a farm wife and mother to her two sons, Nathan and Daniel. She
accepted Jesus as her lord and savior at a young age and enjoyed
attending the women's bible study at Thornburg Church.
Lori is preceded in death by her father, Franklin Muck; her sister,
Carol (Junior) Muhsmann; her nephew, Eric Muck; and her grandparents,
George L. and Ida Windscheffel Watkins, and Nathan Muck and Miriem
(Hershey) Muck Zimmerman.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Marty and sons, Nathan
and Daniel of Smith Center, KS; mother, Elsie Muck of Gaylord, KS;
sister, Kathy (Gayle) Shockley of Smith Center, KS; brother, Terry
(Nancy) Muck of Gaylord, KS; niece, Jennifer (Doug) Beilby of Grand
Island, NE; nephew, James Muhsmann of Aurora, CO; niece, Michaela
(Scott) Catalena of Bryan, TX; niece Tiffany (Nathan) Garcia of Roeland
Park, KS; as well as several great nieces and nephews; many aunts,
uncles, cousins, friends; and brother- and sister-in-laws from the Baetz
family.
