After dropping its first game of the season Saturday by just one point, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team will look to return to the win column Thursday (Jan. 7) when the Tigers face off with No. 21 Central Missouri on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the UCM Multipurpose Building.
Central Missouri leads in the all-time series, 17-14, including a 9-4 advantage in Warrensburg. The teams have alternated wins in Warrensburg in each of the last five meetings, with UCM coming away victorious last season. Fort Hays State has won seven of the last 11 matchups with the Jennies. This will be the fourth-consecutive regular season meeting between the Tigers and Jennies played in Warrensburg. Head coach Tony Hobson is 12-12 against the Jennies, including a 3-6 mark inside the UCM Multi.
Jaden Hobbs leads the MIAA and ranks sixth nationally with an assist/turnover ratio of 3.67. Her 3.00 3-pointers per contest also leads the league and is good for 15th-most in Division II.
Cydney Bergmann is leading the Tigers with 7.3 assists per game, sixth-best in the MIAA. The junior corralled a career-best 11 rebounds Saturday against Emporia State.
Hobbs, Bergmann, Whitney Randall and Madison Mittie all scored in double figures in their last trip to Warrensburg.
The Tigers are 46-39 in games played in Missouri under Hobson.
Winners of 15-straight going back to last season, Central Missouri carries a 6-0 record into the new year. The Jennies have not lost in just under 11 months (2/8/20 at MWSU). Thursday's contest will be UCM's first game in three weeks. The Jennies lead the MIAA and rank seventh in Division II with a scoring margin of +19.3. They are second in the league and ninth in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 54.0 points per contest. Nija Collier leads the Jennies with 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. She is one of 30 student-athletes in Division II with multiple double-doubles this season.
