Agiliti, a leading provider of medical device solutions to the U.S. health care industry, today announced the purchase of its manufacturing campus in Hays, Kansas, signaling its commitment to ongoing investment in the local community.
“This is more than a business transaction—it’s a vote of confidence in our local team whose work is essential to the important work we do nationwide,” said Agiliti CEO Tom Leonard. “We’re proud to invest in a community that has long been a hub of innovation and craftsmanship in healthcare manufacturing.”
With this purchase agreement, Agiliti will own the 14.9-acre campus and three existing buildings that house one of its core production operations for medical device manufacturing in the U.S. Agiliti also secured an option to purchase an additional 11.5 acres as it positions for future growth opportunities. Today, the Hays campus is a main production hub for Agiliti’s latest product innovation, Essentia™ – the multi-acuity hospital bed launched earlier this year.
Agiliti currently employs more than 90 team members in Hays with an additional 60 team members in nearby Ellis, many of whom have deep roots in the region. The company plans to expand its local workforce over the next five years, creating new opportunities for skilled jobs, training and career advancement.
“Agiliti’s investment in Hays is a powerful affirmation of our community’s skilled workforce and innovative spirit,” said Doug Williams, Executive Director at Grow Hays. “This expansion not only brings new jobs and career pathways to our residents—it strengthens our position as a center for advanced healthcare manufacturing and long-term economic growth.”
The site’s history dates back to 1988, when Wheelchairs of Kansas manufactured wheelchairs in Oberlin. The Hays campus itself was acquired by Sizewise in 2010 and later became part of Agiliti through its 2021 acquisition of Sizewise.
“This campus has been part of our family’s story for decades, and we couldn’t be prouder to see it enter a new chapter with Agiliti,” said Brian Frickey, Frickey Family Representative, former CEO of Sizewise. “Agiliti’s investment in Hays is not only a boost for our local economy—it’s a continuation of a legacy of innovation, care and community pride.”
Since acquiring Sizewise, Agiliti has invested in advanced manufacturing technologies, training programs, and resources in Hays, adding to its broader strategic investment in its domestic manufacturing operations that today extend north to its R&D center in Milwaukee and west to its production campus in Corona, Calif. With this purchase, the company is poised to accelerate its efforts as a leading developer of next-generation hospital beds, therapeutic support surfaces and mobility equipment to healthcare providers nationwide.
