EMPORIA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State Women's Soccer team came up short on Sunday (Sept. 26) to No. 5 ranked Emporia State by a score of 1-0. The Hornets jumped ahead early on a breakaway opportunity and both teams struggled to find shot opportunities on a very windy day. The Hornets improved to 7-0-1, 1-0 in the MIAA, and the Tigers are now 3-2-3 overall, 0-1 in conference play.

The Hornets found the net in the 10th minute as Mackenzie DiMarco made a fast break with the ball down the middle and placed it into the bottom right of the goal past Deonna Wellbrock for the only score of the match. The Hornets outshot the Tigers 8-3 and the Tigers were only able to put one shot in target late in the match. Wellbrock recorded two saves in the match compared to one by the Hornets.

The Tigers will be back in action at home on Friday, October 1 in another MIAA contest as they host Central Oklahoma at 6 pm.
