Mother nature was the big winner on the second day of the KSHSAA State Golf Championships. With the exception of the 6A tournament in Dodge City, all of the other sites had their second round cancelled due to the rain which made course conditions unplayable.
By policy, the championship reverted back to the first 18 holes of play on Monday for the final.
TMP-Marian junior Pake Dewey tied for 25th place after his 13-over-par 83 at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Cheney’s Harrison Middleton won the 3A title by one shot over Hesston’s Camden Waterson. Middleton shot a 2-under 68. Norton freshman Eli Jones shot an 82 and placed 21st.
Hesston won the 3A team title by two strokes over Sante Fe Trail.
Ashton Dowell of Hoxie won the 2A individual title at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. He fired a 3-over-par 74 on Monday and finished one shot ahead of Ellinwood’s Andrew Heinz. Hill City’s Dylan Budig placed eighth with a 9-over 80. Austin Carroll or Ellis finished tied for 18th at 12-over. His Railer teammate Mason Gottschalk tied for 20th place one shot back. Trego’s Tyler Malsam tied for 26th at 14-over.
Hoxie finished second in the team standings, one stroke behind Salina-Sacred Heart. Hill City finished third, 21 strokes behind the Knights.
Osborne senior Grady Wolters tied for sixth after a 13-over 84 Monday at the 1A tournament at the Hesston Golf Course.
