Mark Johnson Paschal

Mark Johnson Paschal, 67, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.

Mark was born December 18, 1953, in Russell, Kansas.  He was the son of Willis Albert “Bill” and Wilma Joyce (Johnson) Paschal.  He grew up in Luray and graduated from Luray High School.  He then attended and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in Animal Science and Industry.

Mark was united in marriage to Joann Amelia Loflin on July 24, 1982, in Ogallah, Kansas.  This union was blessed with a daughter, Nicole.  They made their home in Luray until 1996 when they moved out to the farm northeast of Luray.

Mark was a Farmer and Rancher.  He raised pigs early on before raising mainly cattle.  He produced wheat, soybeans, milo, alfalfa, sunflowers and corn.  For over 30 years he was a EMT and First Responder for the Luray community.  He was a volunteer fireman for Luray and was on the Directors for Fire Department.  He was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church and he served on the Vincent Cemetery Board.  He was one of the main cooks for the Luray Fish Fry for many years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, reloading ammunition, photography and taking care of all types of animals.

Mark’s surviving family include his wife of 38 years, Joann of the home; daughter, Nicole Webber (Cameron) of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Meredith Mense (Tim) of Shawnee, Kansas and Martha Powell (Ben) of Olathe, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Darrick Webber, Landyn Webber and Xylie Webber.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the Vincent Cemetery north of Luray.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, January 18, 2021, at the Luray United Methodist Church. 

A Memorial has been established as his Grandchildren’s Education Fund.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
