⚾ HBC Hammer 17U, 16U fall in semifinals in Goddard

GODDARD, Kan. – All three of the Hays Hammer high school teams played at the High School Elite Series tournament at the Genesis Sports Complex over the weekend. The 17U and 16U both made it to bracket play on Sunday where they both lost in the semifinals.

The 17U (8-7-1) dropped their pool play opener 7-0 to Drive Baseball out of Salina but bounced with wins over the Kansas City Outlaws (1-0), Kansas Curve – White (6-4) and 316 Sluggers – Helm (3-1). They lost 1-0 to 316 Sluggers – Torres in Sunday’s semifinal. 316 – Helm went on to win the tournament.

The 16U (14-4) also went 3-1 in pool play with wins over KS/OK Bombers (11-1) , 316 Elite – Hoover (10-0) and 316 Elite – Wineinger (9-1). They lost to the Wichita Falcons (7-6) in their final pool play game. The Hammer lost 6-2 to eventual tournament champ Williwaw Baseball out of Wichita in Sunday’s semifinal.

The 15U Hammer (5-11-1) went 0-4 losing to the Salina Spikes, the Rangers and DBA Panthers in pool play then lost 12-4 to Kansas Velo in consolation play Sunday.

All three Hammer teams are scheduled to close out their season at a tournament in McPherson this week.
