HESSTON - Hays High cross country hit the road for Hesston to complete in an early morning race. The meet was moved up because of the recent heat.
The Swather Special is a different meet than any other. Individuals run in races based on their grade. So four races are held on both the girls and boys side. Team scores are then compiled from the entire day.
The Hays boys finished in third place with 29 points. Dodge City won with 23 and Garden City finished with 24 points for second.
Logan Leiker took 4th place in the senior race with a time of 18:11.7. Aidan Hardman was 11th at 19:42.4.
Bladyn Werth ran 18:00.3 to finish 3rd in the junior race. Jackson Huwa was 9th at 19:22.10.

Levi Denham and Emmitt Dreiling went 2-3 in the sophomore race. Denham ran 17:34.7 and Dreiling 17:47.4.

Emery Zimmerman won the freshman race by nearly two minutes, posting a 17:02.6. Second place's time was 18:57.9. Zimmerman's time was the fastest overall time in the large class race made up of 6A through 4A. The time was fourth fastest including the small class race. Shane Conner placed 7th at 19:29.7 and Robbie Readle 9th with a time of 19:45.2.

The Hays girls placed fourth as a team.
Bekah Clark was the top finisher in the junior race for Hays, running 22:59.5 for 5th. Madeline Wilkins was 8th at 23:53.4 and Eliana Pineda 13th with a time of 28:47.7.
Audrey Yarmer brought home top honors in the sophomore race with a time of 19:26.9. Her time was the fastest on the day from the eight races ran on the girls side from 6A down through 1A. Alex Cooley (21:59.6) and Kiana Sun (23:45.3) both placed in the top ten with 6th and 10th place finishes.
Maya Pfeifer was the top freshman girl with a time of 21:27.5, winning by nearly 20 seconds.
