Jay Alan Todd of Rexford, Kansas passed away on August 17, 2023. He was born on May 7, 1969 in Colby, Kansas to Doug and Joan (Harker) Todd.
On June 17, 1995, Jay married Brandy Goodman and settled in Rexford where they raised their family.
Jay was raised on the McKee/Todd homestead south of Rexford and was a lifelong resident of northwest Kansas.
He graduated from Golden Plains High School in 1987 and attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma before transferring to Kansas State University where he graduated in 1992 with a bachelor of xcience degree in znimal xcience and industry. Jay was a cowboy, cattleman and banker.
He was the 1986 Kansas High School Team Roping Champion with Kyle Elwood and a national finalist calf roper in 1987. He represented Panhandle State at the college national finals in 1989. After college, Jay followed in the footsteps of his uncle, H.L. Todd, and began steer roping and roped at numerous PRCA rodeos around the country.
Jay formed Todd Land & Cattle with his dad and began growing and running feeder cattle on the farm in eastern Thomas County and western Sheridan County. Together they developed a respected program and enjoyed routinely topping the market when their calves sold on Superior Livestock.
In 2002, Jay followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, John Harker, when he joined Peoples State Bank (now Outdoor Bank) as a loan officer leading to a 21-year banking career, Jay was currently the executive vice president and senior loan officer at the Outdoor Bank. Jay was a visible member of the northwest Kansas agriculture and business community with offices in Colby, Hoxie, and Oakley.
Jay was currently serving on the USD 316 school board and the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center board. He has served on numerous boards over the years. Jay loved helping people in his community.
Jay accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and was active in the Rexford Community Church.
Jay and Brandy were blessed with three children, daughters Taylor (fiancé Kyle Harris) and Tylor, and son, Tannor. They were his passion. He loved helping his children succeed and made sure he was there to mentor, support, and assist them in their various ventures.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Jay is survived by his parents, Doug and Joan Todd, Rexford, Kansas, his brother, Jeff (Nancy) Todd, Wayne, Oklahoma, his sister, Jody (Cade) Leeper, Wilmore, Kansas, nieces, nephews, and a loving extended family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Bernice (McKee) Todd and John and Norrene (Summers) Harker.
Visitation with the family will be at the Rexford Community Church on Monday, August 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Golden Plains High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m.
