Hays city commissioners will review three potential names Thursday for the new development at Interstate 70, exit 161, on city-owned property.
The 90 acres at the northeast corner of the interstate will eventually have housing and retail space. Streets, water and sewer are being installed.
City staff and Grow Hays vetted several name options, said Jarrod Kuckelman, assistant city manger, and three suggestions will be presented to the commission for their input:
1. The Crossroads or The Crossroads at Hays
2. Prairie View Commons
3. Gateway 16
Other agenda items include:
Hess second addition final plat
An application has been submitted for the final plat of the Hess second addition, a replat of a portion of the Hess first addition. The property, at the northwest corner of the I-70, exit 157 interchange, is owned by Hess Land LLC.
The Hays Area Planning Commission earlier approved the final plat.
City water and sewer have been installed and ready to be extended for future development, which is zoned general commercial. Streets and storm sewer will need to be completed for development to occur.
Economic development policy review
At the request of the commission, city staff has made several nonsubstantive changes, with feedback from Grow Hays and Gilmore & Bell bond counsel staff, to make the policy flow better and be more consistent, Kuckelman said.
Hays' economic development policy outlines the city’s approach to economic development objectives as well as specifying the criteria and standards for the incentives that are available.
Changes were last made to the policy in 2021.
