Hays USD 489 officials confirmed Thursday a Hays man arrested on suspicion of electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation following information provided to police by Colorado group was employed as a nighttime custodian at Hays Middle School.
The district released a statement following the arrest of Austin Darnall, 40, of Hays, who was arrested Sept. 9, for alleged electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation. The statement is listed below.
The district was made aware of the recent arrest of an employee who worked as a night time custodian at Hays Middle School.
The allegations concerning the arrest did not involve any students, staff or activities within Hays Middle School or any of our schools. Upon learning of the arrest, the district took immediate steps consistent with district policy to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff going forward.
We will continue to work closely with the appropriate authorities while respecting the legal process and requirements for personnel confidentiality.
Police said Wednesday the investigation remains ongoing.
Darnall is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
