UPDATED 4:45 p.m. Monday: Blizzard warning issued for Hays, Ellis County
The National Weather Service is calling for widespread rain beginning Monday, change to snow Monday night and into Tuesday.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for area west of U.S. 281.
Light rain is expected to begin in the Hays area early Monday afternoon, changing to snow in the early morning hours Tuesday. The front will be accompanied by strong sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph Monday, increasing to 29 to 36 mph Tuesday. Gusts as high as 50 mph are expected.
Less than an inch of rain and up to 2 inches of snow are possible in the Hays area, the NWS predicted.
Skies are expected to clear Tuesday night and remain clear through the rest of the week.
