At 6:24 a.m. Wednesday, the Hays Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 403 W. 32nd.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the rear of the house, including a covered patio, fully involved in fire.

Fire crews made an initial attack on the fire with a 2 ½-inch handline.  When additional crews arrived, multiple handlines were used to extinguish the fire inside the home.

The home sustained significant fire and smoke damage.

The Office of the Kansas State Fire Marshal assisted the Hays Fire Department with the investigation.

The cause of the fire was unable to be determined because of the amount of damage.

The Hays Fire Department was assisted by the Ellis County Fire Department, Hays Police Department and Ellis County EMS.
