Delane John Dietz, 73, passed away on January 27, 2022, at his home surrounded by family in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on April 23, 1948 at Great Bend, Kansas to John & Alvina (Niedens) Dietz.

Delane married Jo Ann Yost in 1971. She passed away on August 31, 1972. He then married Lana Schamaun on July 21, 1973 in Great Bend. They spent the next 48+ years together as “partners in crime” playing softball, golfing, remodeling homes, and raising their sons. If you saw one, the other was generally close by.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Delane worked as a pumper in the oil field the majority of his career and later worked in sales for Doonan GMC. He was an avid golfer, known for his putting skills and served on the Board of Directors at Lake Barton Golf Course for many years. He was also a member of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce. Delane spent many years helping with the 3-I Shows and Farm and Ranch Shows.

Delane’s biggest goal was to be a good dad and spend time with his boys, teaching them about hunting, fishing, golf, sports and everything in between. He coached the boys in many little league sports and while known as a big K-State fan, nothing compared to the fan he was of his sons and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Great Bend; a daughter-in-law, Denise (Penka) of Eudora; three grandchildren, Malia, Ethan, and Rylee Dietz; and a sister, Joyce Monroe of Great Bend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jo Ann, and a son, Timothy “T.J."

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Elder Care for their daily service to Delane: Tracy, Jessica, Candy, Mandy, Susan and Heather.

Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022, with the family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeffrey Owen presiding. Interment will take place at a later date.

Memorials can be made to Denise Dietz for the purpose of the T.J. Dietz Memorial Scholarship, Elder Care or Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
