Rahjes will seek Republican nomination for Kansas House 110 seat

Rep. Ken Rahjes R-Agra, said Tuesday he will be throwing his hat back in the ring for the Republican nomination for the Kansas House District 110 seat.

The district includes Ellis County except Hays and all of Graham, Norton, Phillips and Rooks counties.

Rahjes ,60, a retired ag broadcaster, originally announced his intent to run for Kansas Secretary of State.

However, he ended up on the ticket as the running mate for gubernatorial candidate Scott Schwab. The duo lost in the Republican primary to Ty Masterson and his running mate.

Cody Ward won the Republican primary for the District 110 seat. However, he has asked to be removed from the ballot due to health concerns.

Republicans will meet on Wednesday to choose someone to represent them in the General Election. 

Rahjes has served the 110th District for 11 years in the Kansas House.

"I got several calls when Mr. Ward took his name off, and the folks encouraged me to run, " Rahjes said, "and so I talked with my wife, and she said go for it.

"That was not necessarily the plan, but we know there's unfinished business to do in the Legislature, and so we hope we hope that the folks who are the delegates to the convention will vote for us. Then we'll work hard the last 70 days or so before the general."

If Rahjes earns his party's nomination, he will take on Democrat Mark Schaukowitch in the General Election.
