HAYS – The Hays Larks scored three runs in the second inning then added three more runs late to beat the Junction City Brigade 7-2 in a non-league game Monday night at Larks Park.
The Larks have now won seven-straight and improve to 11-2 on the season.
Baylor’s John Ceccoli and Tennessee’s Peyton Ebbing both drove in two runs. Ebbing got the Larks on the board with two-run single to center which scored Garrett Gruell and Kam Walton in the second. Gruell led of the inning with a single and Walton reached on an error. Damian Ruiz doubled which scored Ebbing with the third run in the inning.
Luis Garcia singled with two outs in the fourth which scored Ruiz and pushed the lead to 4-0.
After the Brigade tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth, the Larks answered with two in the seventh and one in the eighth.
With one out in the seventh, Will Pendergrass singled, Tyler LaRue followed with a double then Ceccoli drove them home with a double to left. Ruiz scored on an error an inning later.
Angelo State’s Michael Cruz (1-0) pitched an inning of relief and picked up the win in his debut. Fresh off the Division II national championship, Cruz allowed two runs on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks. He followed starter Luuk ter Beek who pitched four scoreless innings with three hits, four strikeouts and one walk.
Carson Jacobs also pitched two scoreless innings of relief with Caden Hare and Dayne Pengelly each adding one scoreless inning in relief.

The Larks are off until Thursday when they begin a six-game Rocky Mountain Baseball League road trip at the Gameday Angels.
