The Ellis County District Court, Hays Police Department and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office have been made aware of a scam that is passing through the community.
Reports have surfaced of a caller stating they are with the Sheriff’s office, and they are calling on behalf of the judge regarding them missing jury duty.
The caller states they are being charged with multiple offenses including failure to appear, contempt of court or avoiding civic duty, etc. The caller then requests you obtain a prepaid card and send it to them.
Please be aware, the District Court will never request that you send a prepaid card.
The Ellis County District Court mails jury summons as well as questionnaires that will need to be returned.
The district court will follow that up with a call reminding you of your upcoming service.
The Ellis County District Court has several trials scheduled.
